| Other Info | Flamenco Fantasy Dance Theatre is a very unique dance company as it is one of the very few companies left that is doing the traditional flamenco presentations and teachings of the Spanish Gypsy and Andalusian Art of Flamenco. So much of flamenco has been watered down in the last twenty five years with the mix of other kinds of cultures that “new audiences” that see flamenco today think that what they are seeing is flamenco, but when they see the real flamenco with it’s wonderful traditional costuming, palmas, (hand clapping) pitos (finger snaps) the dancers with authentic costumes from the different provinces of Andalucia Spain they say, “We never see this kind of flamenco any more, or we don’t see this kind of flamenco even in Spain!” What they do see today is mixture of dancers with there shirt tails hanging out dressed in cheep street clothes and the female dancers in cocktail dresses, they may have been designed by Armani with very drab colors (very anti gypsy) with no flowers in there hair no earrings, doing very little palmas or pitos and it seems that the primary color is ether black or gray, (how boring!) Then the dancers of today are dancing 0n stage and all of a sudden they stop dancing and start walking a round in circles breaking off any artistic spell they have created, if any! I was a young boy when I was learning from the era of Carmen Amaya, Mario Maya, José Greco. El guito, El Farruco and other greats. Carmen Amaya danced strait flamenco and would get thirteen curtain calls. She did not need to do all the dumb things that I see today in flamenco dance. The real flamenco is so beautiful and has so much to say about Spain, Andalucia, the Gypsies and the way of life of all these people! Time marches on and we see less and less of the real thing! |
