From the World Dance Alliance 10-19-2009 http://www.wda-ap.org
As we move into the final quarter of 2009, I want to send you greetings and inform you of upcoming World Dance Alliance events.

The WDAA Board will meet in early November 2009 to discuss organizational issues and planning for the 2010 Global Dance Event in New York City. We’ve already amassed a robust agenda for the meeting. Nevertheless, I welcome any contributions from WDAA members regarding topics or concerns you might like the board to consider and discuss.

From November 28 through December 1, 2009, WDA-India will host the first ever WDA event in India: the WDA-Asia Pacific Annual General Meeting and “Re-Searching Dance” an international conference on Dance research. More information is available on WDAAP’s website:
http://www.wda-ap.org/wda-ap/wda_event/2009/2009India/2009_India.htm

I am pleased to announce CORPS de Ballet International’s 12th Annual Teacher Conference, which will take place in New York City, July 7 – 11, 2010. WDAA coordinated with CORPS de Ballet so that their conference and the 2010 WDA Global Dance Event would occur back-to-back in the same city. We sought to encourage the exchange and participation of both groups at both events. I’ve attached the CORPS de Ballet Conference’s Call for Proposals to this email for any WDAA members who might find it of interest. Information is also available online: http://www.corps-de-ballet.org

2010 promises to be a very busy, exciting year for WDA. While more information about each event will be forthcoming, here is a list of what’s to come:

* May 20, 2010: The Education Network of WDA will attend the World Alliance for Arts Education (WAAE) Summit in Korea—WAAE’s first annual summit to be held in Asia.

* July 12 - 17, 2010: WDA Global Dance Event “In Time Together: Viewing & Reviewing Contemporary Dance Practice” will take place at NYU and Dance Theater Workshop and will happen in conjunction with the 2010 Dance Critics Association Conference. The Event is currently accepting applications for performance, presentations, master classes, and workshops. The Call for Proposals is now available online: http://dance.wisc.edu/wda10

* August 3 – 5, 2010: Committee meeting of WDA and daCi (Dance and the Child International) at Taipei National University of the Arts to prepare for WDA’s 2012 Global Event in Taiwan.

* November 25 – 28, 2010: WDA-Asia Pacific Annual General Meeting in Hong Kong.

I hope to see you at one or more of these exciting events during 2010!

Sincerely,

Jin-Wen Yu,
President

The A.W.A.R.D. Show! For further information and to download applications for each city visit:
www.joyce.org/about_specialevents_awardshow.html
Inspired by the previous success of The A.W.A.R.D. Show! in New York City and Gainesville, Florida, The Joyce Theater Foundation
is partnering with three presenting organizations--The Dance Center of Columbia College, Chicago, Philadelphia Live Arts Festival and On the Boards (Seattle)--to expand The A.W.A.R.D. Show! across the country. The A.W.A.R.D. Show! was created in response to a need for a lab-like space in which working dance
artists can engage in an open dialogue with the audience about their work. It is dedicated to nurturing new work, discussion, exploration,
creativity and to the free exchange of ideas, thoughts and opinions.

Each of these four series, in New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia and Seattle, will present the work of 12 promising contemporary choreographers. Three preliminary evenings will feature the work of four choreographers per night. Each dance piece will be 12-15 minutes of a completed work, excerpt or work-in-progress. After each performance, a moderated artist and audience discussion will take place, followed by an audience vote to select a finalist to perform
again on the fourth and final night of the series. Each night the audience and the artists will be invited to a post-performance reception
where further informal dialogue about the work is encouraged. On the final night, a panel of experts in dance and other cultural arts
fields, along with the audience, will choose the winner of the award in that city. The first place winners in each of the four participating
cities will receive a $10,000 cash award. The two runners-up in each city will receive $1,000. These awards are to be used toward the creation of new dance work.
