The mission of the Colorado Dance Alliance shall be to enrich the lives of the people of Colorado by supporting and promoting the dance arts and arts performances through education, communication and advocacy.
The Colorado Dance Alliance (CDA) is a statewide organization whose mission is to foster and support dance in the state of Colorado. CDA was founded in 1980 and has been a continuous force in dance in Colorado for over 30 years. Incorporated as a non-profit 501 (c) (3) in 1982, CDA is led by a board of dedicated volunteers from a broad and varied spectrum of the dance field. Our board members represent studio owners, critics, choreographers, company artistic directors, dance wellness experts, dance clothing suppliers and dance teachers from studios, public schools and universities. A number of our board members have also served in prominent positions on the boards of other dance and arts-related organizations. CDA is not only dedicated to diversity on its board, but in the constituents it serves. Its membership is made up of dancers from all over the state, representing many dance forms including social/ballroom, ethnic/world and concert dance; dance performance and workshop presenters; professional and amateur/ professional dance companies; dance studios; college and university dance programs, regional dance and arts service organizations, and a Denver-based dance library. In its effort to reach out to many in the dance community CDA membership includes those that support the art of dance such as physical therapists, Pilates practitioners and dance wear companies.
Beginning in 1982, CDA has published a bi-monthly newsletter. This newsletter is now on-line and has been integrated into our new web site. CDA members can submit information to this newsletter about their workshops and classes and upcoming performances. Short articles can also be submitted by our members for publication on the CDA web site. In addition, the CDA web site includes up dated information about grants and grant deadlines, auditions, teaching jobs in Colorado and elsewhere, studio rental space, and conferences and meetings held locally or in other parts of the country and world.
CDA posts a dance directory on another section of their web site as well. This directory, which is updated each year, lists dance organizations across the state together with their contact information. An advantage of CDA membership is that members can list in our dance directory at a discounted rate. A listing in our directory is an excellent way to get noticed.
New to the CDA web site is our Dance Education Brochure which includes points to consider when selecting a dance instructor and studio for your child’s dance studies. This brochure was compiled and created by knowledgeable dance teachers and dance injury prevention specialists.
Each year CDA holds an annual meeting to keep members abreast of our plans. This meeting is held at different locations each year. CDA also plans a Dance Awards Celebration every year. Members are encouraged to nominate deserving dancers and dance teachers for awards in several categories: Lifetime Achievement, Cutting Edge and Service to the Field.
